Ruthless Ruth Liqueur Muscat

$65.00 / bottle

Archibald Oliver inherited 800 acres of the family property when pioneer William passed away in 1888, but it was Archibald’s stern Ruth, whom he married in 1879, that kept the family business in health while Archibalds and his brothers led a more scurrilous lifestyle. Records show grape payments made by ‘Kay Brothers’ in 1925 to ‘Mrs Oliver’ whose husband Archibald had long since passed.

History

History

Ruth Oliver was married to second generation Archibald Oliver, who inherited a portion of the property from his father William Oliver. Unfortunately, family tales tell a story of a man who was quite partial to a drink, and Archibald died in 1910, leaving Ruth to run the substantial family farm. Ruth took this in her stride, and was known to be a hard task master. Heck we don’t even have one photo of her smiling!

Reviews

White frontignac, otherwise known as muscat. Olive edges skirting a mahogany hue. Scents of molasses, roasted almonds, hazelnuts and walnut, with rancio-driven closet and old cheese. Brilliant gear! This straddles the edges of overt, fresh and pointed restraint. Intense, layered and profoundly long. 96 points.
